Monopoly Lesson

Hi there! This is my first of many-to-come self-written post!
A friend of mine lend me his super-cool Monopoly. Instead of using the usual paper ‘money’, each player got a credit card. Then for every transaction we made, all we have to do is to put the card in a machine and press the corresponding amount.. and hey presto! the money is in.. or out! Very high tech indeed.

So the night after, I found myself playing the game with my 3 housemates.
Just to remind those who haven’t played in long time, in Monopoly, you buy properties. For every other players who stop on your properties, you will get rental income from it.

Finally when you got a set of land with the same colour, you can build houses on the land. Houses increases your rent exponentially. After you got 4 houses, you can exchange them for a hotel.

It was not long until I got a hold of a set of land (orange). I traded my every other lands to get the last piece of orange set. Basically in the middle of the game I only have three lands left.

Things are tough at first. I continue to stop on other player’s land, but they never stop in mine. I stop in a land with hotel and almost went bankrupt, so i sold my houses. I gave my railway stations and utilities to pay the debt. It is very tough.

Not a single player stop on my land for turns and turns, and I invested all my money in those lands! And with the starting money of $15Millions, my money in the pocket stays around 50k-500k. What an easy situation to give up and go to sleep.

Then things began to change. Players start to stop on my land. One stop and they are paying about 2 times fold what i paid earlier. Soon I found them mortgaging their lands, and making deals with me(“let me stop in ur land without paying in 1 turn”).

I will leave the honor of guessing the final result to you.

Brothers and sisters, sometimes we find ourselves in similar situation.
Things are very tough.
We gave so much efforts and time and money for something.
We cried tears of blood.
We are waiting, waiting, waiting for the result.
We keep waiting, but nothing come to our hands.

HOLD ON TIGHT!
Pray and believe, stay focused.
You will reap what you sow.
Someday all your efforts, time, and money will pay off.
The gain would be so sweet that it will make the hard works look nothing compared to it.
Building a “red hotel” takes time and money and effort! (aside from four houses)

So, once again when things are tough, always remember the lesson of Monopoly:

build four green houses, then exchange it for a red hotel.

It takes heaps of time and money at start, but it worth every cents you pay for and every seconds you spent.

Have an awesome life!
